SKINCARE SURVIVAL KIT

Skincare is something that I've learned so much about on the job. As a disclaimer I'm not a trained skincare therapist, I'm a make-up artist. I can only share with you what I've learned and what works for me. I research a lot and I'm very fortunate in that I get to work alongside amazing brands. I get to attend launches where we are taught about skincare and new products. I'm lucky to be in the loop as it were. At the moment these are some of my favourites and this is my routine.

Remove Make-Up...

Firstly I remove my make-up with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, I love this product, It's so gentle and amazing at removing all make-up while not leaving any oily residue.

Cleanse...

I switch between these two cleansers Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser for the morning and Elemis Pro-collagen Cleansing Balm for a proper clean at night. As a rule I avoid anything that foams, I find it very drying and I don't like that tight feeling in my skin after I've used a foaming wash. This balm is so calming for my skin, it leaves it feeling plumped and hydrated. I use a face cloth to clean my skin (old school). They are cheap and easy to clean on high heat in the washing machine, killing any bacteria.

Sometimes scrub...

I also scrub a couple of times a week with Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. I've used this scrub for a few years now, it's gentle enough and doesn't dehydrate my skin. Skin feels like silk after a gentle scrub!

Special Spritz...

Dermalogica Antioxidant Hydramist really feels like it feeds and soothes my skin. I use it often, especially when flying. It's so good after a day on the beach when your skin is feeling windburnt or stressed.

Eye Area...

Putting your eye cream on last is a bit like wearing your bra over your shirt. It's difficult to completely avoid the eye area when applying your serums/oils etc. So I think it's best to treat the eye area first so that the product has a chance to soak in and do it's job. At quite a hefty price tag you want effectiveness!

Then for Anti-aging...

I love a Serum and switch between these favourites, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum and Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum.

Next Moisturise..

Dr Andrew Weil for Origins, Mega-Mushroom Smoothing Face Cream is my current favourite. I find my skin feels plump, hydrated and smooth from it. Leaving no oily residue it's a good make-up base. I should mention I'm not a fan of matte skin, in my opinion skin should glow! So when I say no oily residue I don't mean that skin is left matte, just not greasy.

Relax...

Most evenings when I have time (a real luxury post baby) I like to do a facial massage with face oil. I learned to do facial massage from YouTube, there are tons of videos available! It's so relaxing and I find myself going into a bit of a trance in front of the T.V., much to hubby's amusement. My current favourite oil to use is Bobbi Brown Extra Face Oil.

Last But Most Importantly Not Least...

Sunblock! Once again a Dermalogica favourite Solar Defense Booster SPF50 is the perfect sunblock! Light, non greasy, it doesn't make my skin break out.
