The most underrated make-up essential, is the humble blusher. Long before contouring became the thing to do, we have been using blusher to add colour, brighten the complexion and without even knowing it, contour the face. Back in the day a bit of lipstick did the trick, but today, blusher comes in many different colours and textures. Pick something that works for you, do you want a soft shine to the cheek area? Then opt for a cream blusher. If you want a more matte effect, go for a powder blush.

To find the tone that suits you best, pick a colour that resembles the colour that you naturally blush. Avoid anything with big bits of sparkle in it, I find these look too noticeable on the skin.

How to...

Almost impossible to mess up, you don't need to watch a million Youtube tutorials to know how to apply blusher. Simply smile and apply on the apples of your cheeks. Blend well so you don't see any visible patches or streaks.

I start on the apple (centre of the cheek) and blend out towards the ear. If you apply too much, use a tissue to wipe down or a clean brush to blend the colour into the skin.

Blush is a lazy girl's best friend. With a cream blusher you can do a two minute make-up look by adding a smudge on the cheeks, a wash across the eyelid and a dab on the lips. I've used MAC Cream Colour Base in Vintage Rose and the Bobbi Brown Blush Brush.
